A very helpful and thoughtful post.

Can I add another "two"?

Judgment of the Christian believer.

On the one hand the Bible seems clear. 2 Corinthians 5:10 "For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due to him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad." Along with Romans 14:10-12. Plus numerous other references.

We cannot deny what these passages say. But here's the other side...maybe :)

Aren't we saved by grace? Aren't we justified by the blood of Christ.

Aren't we just "unworthy servants, we have only done our duty." Luke 17:10

And who of us could stand confident before the judgment seat of Christ?

Doesn't Revelation 7:9-17 paint a picture of the huge multitude standing before the throne of the Lamb wearing white robes and who "have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb."

I appreciated your point of holding the 2 truths in tension. If we push judgment of the believer, we create fear, doubt and uncertainty.

And we never presume on grace, "grace teaches us to say "no" to ungodliness.

Really interested in your thoughts

John
