Hi Tony

Thank you - another good conversation.

Reading the Bible well, as an apprentice, definitely got me thinking. I loved your approach and I hope that I am faithful to it. But it did get me thinking though of people who attempt to do this, and would even claim to do this, but who end up in the wrong place or an unhelpful place.

Along with the examples you mentioned, I was also thinking of other examples; who should do evangelism, the role of women in the church, the significance of the old covenant in the life of the Christian, etc, etc.

I guess where I'm heading, is that an apprentice, a good learner, I would want to end up being very closely aligned with my master, and being in step with my master, that is, being a faithful apprentice. Perhaps that is a conversation for another day.

Enjoy your break :)

Thanks John — yes, I completely agree. Not just apprentices, but faithful apprentices. And if we can agree together that our goal is to learn from the biblical patterns of thought, including what they emphasize and where they start and how they configure their theology to address issues—then it gives us a basis for sharpening and helping each other to be more faithful.
